How it is calculated
Label printers work in dots per millimetre (6, 8, 12 or 24). The dpi values they are sold with are rounded: a “300 dpi” printer has 12 dots/mm, which is 304.8 dpi.
So every length is converted to mm first (1 in = 25.4 mm) and multiplied by dots/mm. The result is rounded down to whole dots, because a printer cannot print part of a dot.
dots = ⌊ mm × dpmm ⌋ · mm = in × 25.4
